What Louisiana requires
La. R.S. 17:270, enacted via HB 103 (Act 267) in 2023 and amended by Act 48 of 2025, requires every Louisiana public high school student to complete a standalone one-unit Financial Literacy course, starting with the 9th-grade cohort of 2024-25 — the class of 2028. It is also tied to TOPS scholarship eligibility.
This is separate from, and not interchangeable with, the long-standing Civics and Free Enterprise requirement (R.S. 17:274.1). LDOE maintains a Financial Literacy Instruction Clearinghouse of approved curricula and, since Act 48, the course includes postsecondary financial-aid content.

Why Louisiana schools choose Rapunzl
Louisiana asks for a full unit of Financial Literacy, more than the half credit most states require, delivered as course 160345 and phasing in with the class of 2028. The state ties it to TOPS scholarship eligibility and, since Act 48 of 2025, folds in postsecondary financial-aid content, so the course reaches past budgeting into how students actually pay for college. Rapunzl fills a full-credit course without stretching: students manage a $10,000 portfolio in a live-market simulator, and modules on paying for college and taxes cover the aid-focused pieces. LDOE's approved-curriculum clearinghouse is where districts vet materials.
- 100,000+students have completed Rapunzl's curriculum
- 93%average financial literacy scores on national test over past 5 years, 24% above average
- 31interactive modules that can be customized into a course progression for your classroom
- 20+hours of gameplay in 2 interactive mini-games alongside our investment simulator and financial calculators
Teachers get a dashboard that exports grades and crosswalks each lesson to Louisiana's Financial Literacy course description, with materials in English and Spanish that work with a screen reader. Rapunzl's January scholarship competition gives a full-credit course a payoff students chase on their own.
